Originally established in the late 19th century, The Royal Hotel has long stood as one of Prince Edward County's most recognizable landmarks. Following more than a decade of thoughtful restoration and adaptive reuse, this celebrated boutique hotel has been transformed into an award-winning hospitality destination that seamlessly balances heritage architecture with contemporary luxury.

Designed by Giannone Petricone Associates, the project carefully preserves the building's historic character while introducing a rich, layered interior inspired by Victorian craftsmanship, British tradition, and the relaxed spirit of rural Ontario. Throughout the hotel, original architectural details are thoughtfully reinterpreted through custom millwork, handcrafted materials, bespoke furnishings, and playful contemporary interventions, creating an immersive guest experience unlike any other.

Located in the heart of Picton, Prince Edward County, The Royal Hotel features beautifully appointed guest rooms, multiple restaurants and bars, a wellness spa, sauna, fitness facilities, landscaped gardens, and outdoor gathering spaces that have helped restore the property as the social heart of the community. Since reopening, the hotel has earned international recognition, including Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List, multiple Readers' Choice Awards, a Michelin Key, and numerous architecture and interior design awards celebrating its exceptional restoration and hospitality design.

AS AN EDITORIAL INTERIORS AND HOSPITALITY PHOTOGRAPHER, MY APPROACH TO DOCUMENTING THE ROYAL HOTEL WAS TO CREATE A BODY OF WORK THAT FELT BOTH ARCHITECTURAL AND EMOTIONAL. RATHER THAN SIMPLY RECORDING THE SPACES, THESE PHOTOGRAPHS EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE, INTERIORS, CRAFTSMANSHIP, NATURAL LIGHT, MATERIALITY, AND THE EXPERIENCE OF MOVING THROUGH ONE OF CANADA'S MOST CELEBRATED BOUTIQUE HOTELS.
